Human remains found in Prince William Co. woods belong to 19-year-old

WASHINGTON — Police say human remains found in a Woodbridge, Virginia, wooded area last month belong to a 19-year-old man from Montgomery County.

On Sept. 29, Prince William County officers located what appeared to be human remains and bones in a wooded area in the 14300 block of Westminster Lane while investigating an unrelated call for a shooting at a nearby apartment complex.

The Medical Examiner’s Office collected the remains and analyzed them. On Friday, police say the victim was identified as Guillermo Hernandez Leyva, 19, of Montgomery County.

Police say they are investigating the death as a murder through the exact cause of death is still pending.

Leyva’s death is Prince William County’s sixth homicide of 2015.

On Oct. 13, police planned to do an extensive search of the wooded area to find any remaining evidence, but the search was delayed because of inclement weather in the weeks prior.

Police says no suspects have been identified or arrested in connection with this investigation.

The victim reportedly has no known ties to the Prince William County area.
