1 dead, 1 injured in Prince George’s Co. ATV crash

WASHINGTON — A man is dead and his 12-year-old stepdaughter is in the hospital after an ATV and an SUV collided in Prince George’s County on Sunday night.

The man, identified as 29-year-old Jerome Odom of Capitol Heights, was driving his ATV on Walker Mill Road in Capitol Heights Sunday at about 6 p.m. when a SUV turned in front of him.

He was taken to a trauma center, where he died. The stepdaughter was airlifted to a hospital and is in critical condition.

ATVS are illegal to drive on county-maintained roadways. ATV drivers caught on not-approved roadways face fines of up to $290. Also, the ATV can be impounded and the driver can face the possibility of arrest for operating an uninsured vehicle.

Odom’s aunt, Lolita McKie, spoke with NBC Washington about the crash.

“Leave those bikes and stuff alone,” McKie, told NBC Washington. “If you’re not riding at the off-road terrain or where it’s legal to ride them, just leave them alone.”
