Police investigate Chevy Chase vandalism as hate crime

WASHINGTON — Police in Montgomery County are investigating the vandalism of a garage door as a hate crime.

Around 9:30 in the morning a neighbor on Glenmoor Drive in Chevy Chase, Maryland noticed a racial epithet spray painted on a garage door and notified the victim. Together they removed the paint.

It likely occurred between 2 p.m. Sunday Jan. 18 and 7 a.m. Monday.

Captain Paul Starks says the woman who lives in the home is new to the neighborhood.

“The victim has just moved in a little over a week ago,” Starks tells WTOP.

No other similar vandalism has been reported in the area.

Anyone with information should call Montgomery County Police at 301-279-8000.
