BALTIMORE, Md. — In a ribbon-cutting ceremony Tuesday morning, BWI Marshall Airport unveiled a reconstruction and expansion that is meant to reduce wait times and allow for more international service.
“This is a major upgrade in offering an improved travel experience,” Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan said Tuesday.
The $125 million project, called the D/E Connector, includes an eight-lane security checkpoint for domestic and international passengers and a connector between Concourse D and the international Concourse E.
International traffic at the airport has been on the rise and is expected to continue growing in the future.
“We’re so fortunate to be home to one of the most convenient, most efficient and most thriving airports in the nation,” Hogan said.
The D/E Connector project also includes new food and retail concessions, a children’s play area, an art gallery and an outdoor patio space. The reconstructed part of BWI is now open, just in time for the Thanksgiving travel rush, but additional work will continue through early next year.
BWI Marshall is the 22nd busiest airport in the United States.
