Food trucks loaded with freebies making stops in D.C. area

WASHINGTON — Two big food truck tours are stopping in the area this summer to pass out free food, and the first begins its visit Thursday.

A food truck that’s part of Olive Garden’s Breadstick Nation tour will stop and pass out free half-sized versions of its new Signature Breadstick Chicken Parmigiana and Signature Breadstick Italian Meatball sandwiches.

Both sandwiches are made with oversized versions of the restaurant chain’s famous breadsticks.

The Olive Garden truck is scheduled to be parked from noon until 4 p.m. Thursday on the National Mall at 9th Street NW and Constitution Avenue NW to pass out freebies.

The giveaways are set to continue Friday in Farragut Square Park from noon until 4 p.m.

Saturday and Sunday, the truck will be part of the Safeway National Capital BBQ Battle along Pennsylvania Avenue in D.C., and will give away free food between noon and 6:30 p.m. each day.

If ice cream is more your thing, just wait until later this summer.

Starting Aug. 4, a Good Humor truck is scheduled to visit the D.C. area for three whole weeks to pass out free frozen treats.

The freebies will include MAGNUM Double Caramel Bars, Popsicle Rainbow Ice Pops and Mrs. Field’s Chocolate Chip Cookie Sandwiches, just to name a few.

Good Humor calls it the “Welcome to Joyhood” tour, and instead of the traditional instrumental music you’re used to hearing from ice cream trucks, this one will play pop and rock tunes and is tricked out with digital TV screens.

You can tweet at the truck now to request a stop at your location.
