Why dinner is $19.41 at Reagan National all next week

WASHINGTON — Reagan National Airport’s 75th anniversary celebrations kick into high gear next week, and if you’re traveling through Reagan National next week, you can have a leisurely sit-down meal for $19.41.

Several restaurants at Reagan National are offering a “First Class Meal Deal” for $19.41, a nod to the year 1941, when National Airport opened.

The airport will be marking its 75th anniversary all next week with promotions, giveaways and performances.

On Wednesday, the Flagship Detroit, a restored American Airlines DC-3 will fly into Reagan National. It is the same model as the first airplane that landed at the newly opened airport, an arrival observed by President Franklin D. Roosevelt .

Airlines drew straws to decide who would be the first to land at Reagan National, and American won. (An Eastern Airlines plane was the second to land.)

Visit Reagan National Airport’s website to find out more about the 75th anniversary events. Learn more about the airport’s history here.
