Off-duty police officer shoots stabbing suspect at Union Station metro

WASHINGTON– An off-duty police officer shot a stabbing suspect near the Union Station metro escalator Saturday night.

The suspect attacked a woman in the metro station at around 8:30 p.m. on Saturday night. The suspect and the victim knew each other, NBC 4 reports.

An off-duty Baltimore County police officer witnessed the incident. He shot and wounded the suspect.

Metro spokesman Dan Stessel reports that while shooting the suspect, the off-duty officer also shot a female bystander in the leg.

Both the suspect and the woman have been taken to a nearby hospital. The stabbing victim had apparently left the station prior to the shooting and called an ambulance which took her to the hospital. The stabbing suspect was in surgery Saturday night. All three are expected to survive. The identity of the officer is not known at this time.
