Office space growing faster in Mont. Co than Fairfax, Arlington

ROCKVILLE, Md. – A major office space construction boom in happening in Montgomery County.

The latest data from Transwestern Mid-Atlantic (pdf) shows that nearly 2 million square feet of office space is being built in the county — which puts it ahead of both Fairfax and Arlington counties in Virginia, but just behind D.C.

Metro Business Media points out that most of the projects are being driven by federal government leases.

Those government-leased projects include the new campus for the National Cancer Institute, the expansion of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, a new space for the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.

There are also private sector projects like the new headquarters for Choice Hotels in Rockville, and a new building at the Milestone Corporate Center in Germantown.

Metro Business Media points out that several projects in the county are not included in the report from Transwestern Mid-Atlantic.
