5 teens injured in crash outside of Mt. Hebron High

UPDATE: Friday, 1/4/2013 3:33pm ET – An Ellicott City teen hurt in a crash outside of Mt. Hebron High School remained in critical condition Friday.

Howard County Police say Jeff Sinclair remained at Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore. The four other teens injured in the crash have been released from a local hospital.

Crash investigators believe that the Honda Civic Sinclair was driving did not stop at a stop sign before leaving the school parking lot. The car drove directly into the path of an oncoming truck.

Police do not believe the truck was speeding at the time of the crash.

UPDATE: Thursday – 1/3/2013 8:06pm ET – Howard County police have identified the five Ellicott City teens injured in an afternoon crash.

Jeffrey C. Sinclair, 18, was driving the Honda Civic that was hit by a Mack truck. He remains in critical condition at the Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore.

The four other teen boys were taken to Howard County General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries: Justyn R. Alexander, 17; Michael D. Brooks, 15; Elisha S. Brown, 17; and Urek A. Bradshaw, 16.

The driver of the Mack truck was David Dell, 43, of Sykesvill, police say.

Police don’t know if any of the boys were wearing their seatbelts. No citations have been issued and the crash remains under investigation, police say.

Thursday – 1/3/2013, 4:34pm ET – WASHINGTON – One Ellicott City teen was in critical condition and four other teens were injured in a crash outside Mt. Hebron High School Thursday afternoon.

Howard County police believe the teens were leaving the school parking lot, in the 9400 block of Route 99, when the car they were riding in was struck by a large Mack truck about 2:20 p.m.

The truck was traveling west on Route 99 at the time of the crash. It was not clear whether the teens’ car was turning right or left from the parking lot. But investigators believe the car pulled directly into the path of the truck, police say.

Police have not released the names of the injured teens, who are believed to be students at the school.

One of the teens was taken by helicopter to the hospital in critical condition. The other four were transported by ambulance to Howard County General Hospital.

The driver of the truck, which is owned by a tree removal service, was not injured, police say.
