Cyber Monday a good day to book a vacation

WASHINGTON – Cyber Monday is not just a time for big box retailers to offer up their best deals for online shoppers. It turns out, it may also be the best day of the year for prospective vacationers to finalize their plans.

“We’ve seen a lot of different hotel chains and independent hotels offering deals for Cyber Monday,” explains Jodi Grundig, founder of familytravelmagazine.com.

“If there’s a hotel that you like or a place that you’re thinking of staying, check out their website or their Facebook page,” she says.

Hotels and resorts have increasingly used the day to show off big bargains. Priceline, Expedia and Travelocity have discounts posted on their websites.

Travelers can find deals on airfare and car rentals, but according to Grundig, the largest savings will come from hotel stays.

“Some hotels are offering gift certificate deals,” says Grundig. “Some are offering deals off of existing packages. We’re seeing a little bit of everything.”

One word of caution, when booking trips through these Cyber Monday deals, be sure to read the fine print. Many times, there will be so-called black out days listed. Those are times during which bargains would be excluded.

Black out days typically include holidays or peak travel times.
