Police seek suspect in Georgetown sex assault

WASHINGTON – Park Police are investigating a sexual assault that occurred July 7 in the Georgetown Waterfront area.

Around 1 a.m. the victim was approached by the suspect in the area of M and 31st streets NW. The suspect offered to help the victim in finding her friends.

The suspect led the victim onto the C&O Canal just off 31st Street and pushed her into the bushes and sexually assaulted her, say United States Park Police.

The victim was able to get away from the suspect, who was last seen on the C&O Canal at 31st Street, NW.

The suspect is described as a white male with a heavy Australian accent in his late 20s. He is approximately 5-feet-9-inches tall and slightly overweight. He has short dark hair and a scruffy beard. He was seen wearing a polo shirt with white and blue horizontal stripes and shorts of an unknown color.
