Turning a broken iPhone into something creative

WASHINGTON – It’s a painful moment when an iPhone’s glass screen hits a hard surface and shatters. And the frustration repeats each time you look at the cracked screen.

So, it’s not surprising some creative types are turning that misfortune into a Halloween costume that will have many empathizing: a broken iPhone.

“You don’t want to get rid of it, but the screen’s cracked,” says Kelli Uhrich, Home, Living and Pets editor with SheKnows.com.

“I have about two or three friends at least that still carry around their broken iPhone,” says Uhrich

The site offers a step-by-step tutorial on how to make the costume, using foam core poster board, a plastic poster frame and acrylic paint.

Uhrich says the recent release of the plastic iPhone 5C will likely result in vivid costumes.

“You can make these a bit more colorful now that they’ve released the 5C and 5S, so paint them a fun color,” advises Uhrich.

Uhrich estimates the costume should cost under $40 to put together.
