Bryan Voltaggio opening Aggio at Range?

Thursday - 2/6/2014, 12:51pm  ET

It appears “Top Chef” alum Bryan Voltaggio is making some changes at his Chevy Chase restaurant, Range, a little more than a year after it opened.

The chef tweeted a photo Wednesday of a sign asking customers to "Please excuse our appearance as we make some exciting changes." The sign bears the name "Aggio," and a search for that reveals a Facebook page, website and Vimeo video for a restaurant called Aggio to be located at 5335 Wisconsin Ave. NW — the same address as Range and the Chevy Chase Pavilion.

Aggio, whatever it is, will open Feb. 14, according to the sites. Voltaggio isn't offering much more than the restaurant's digital footprint; he declined to comment through a spokeswoman.

The video for Aggio shows Voltaggio and his staff making pasta and meatballs, as well as raucously toasting with glasses of red wine. The website lists operating hours, private event space contacts and a recommendation that would-be customers make reservations. No information on the menu is included.

Voltaggio opened Range in the former Steinmart department store space in Chevy Chase Pavilion in December 2012. It doesn't currently appear that Range will close. He also plans to open his more casual carryout concept, Lunch Box, in the Chevy Chase Pavilion, but no opening date for that has been identified.

Could it be he's decided to use some of the large Range footprint to open a restaurant-within-a-restaurant, a current trend used by José Andrés and others? We'll soon find out.
