DC area faces coldest winter morning yet, slight warm‑up ahead

Tuesday is expected to be the coldest day so far across the D.C. area this winter, with wake‑up wind chills near zero and afternoon temperatures that won’t climb above freezing.

Highs will reach only the upper 20s and evening lows will fall between 10 and 20, as winds back off.

7News First Alert Meteorologist Jordan Evans said the last time the D.C. area had a high temperature below 30 was over a month ago on December 15.

While there’s no snow forecast for the next several days, Evans said chances for “a few to maybe several inches of snow may be on the way” this weekend, as an Arctic front moves through the region.

But before then, Wednesday will start chilly with wind chills in the teens and 20s. Mostly sunny skies will help bring afternoon highs into the low 40s. Thursday is forecast to be the warmest day of the week, with highs climbing into the middle to upper 40s, under partly cloudy skies.

Evans said he expects near‑normal temperatures to return Friday with highs between 36 and 42, under partly skies.
