WASHINGTON — Tropical Storm Florence is battering the Carolina coast, causing storm surge and flooding.

On Thursday morning, an Air Force plane flew into the eye of Hurricane Florence to collect weather data.

Even as the storm gets closer, some North Carolina residents will not leave their coastal homes.

Firefighters from New Hampshire started heading south to help with emergencies during Hurricane Florence.

The National Guard is prepping for Hurricane Florence.

Some Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina residents waited as long as they could before leaving.
