‘Lightly Used Quarterback’ post lampoons Redskins decision

WASHINGTON — In the days before the Washington Redskins decided to keep quarterback Robert Griffin III, some football fans and sports reporters, including WTOP’s Rob Woodfork, were calling for Griffin’s release from the team. One Redskins fan (or hater) took a less-traditional approach in giving his or her two cents on the issue.

In a craigslist posting days before the decision was made, an unnamed head coach offers to barter a “lightly used” quarterback in exchange for pretty much anything.

“O-line, D-line, linebacker, safety, corners, anyone that can tackle,” the post reads. “Got a gift certificate to Ruby Tuesday? Let’s talk.”

The post pokes fun at a whole cast of characters, including Griffin, head coach Jay Gruden, even Jessica McCloughan, the wife of Redskins General Manager Scott McCloughan. Jessica got in some hot water earlier in the week for “lewd” tweets to a female ESPN reporter.

The post also takes a swipe at the will-he-or-won’t-he concussion debate over Griffin’s participation in an exhibition game.

While the post is about RG3 on the surface, the author isn’t pulling any punches when it comes to Jay Gruden or Redskins management.

After begging people to take the quarterback off his hands, the post instructs interested readers to look at his other posting, in the jobs section, entitled “Head Coach looking for football related job with stable organization.” This head coach also has a website, “www.getmetheheckoutofdc.com.”  WTOP is sorry to report that neither the website nor the other posting is real.

After Saturday’s news, the post has been amended to reflect the decision.

“My front office, in its infinite wisdom, has decided that it will keep this quarterback,” the author writes, “maybe we’ll be able to completely kill his career.”

While this head coach loves being “the smartest guy in the room,” it seems he’s not content with his current position. If no one responds to his other ad, he’ll find another way out.

“Maybe I can get McCloughan’s wife to tweet something that will get me fired.”
