Caps lose Game 7 to Pittsburgh, 2-0

WASHINGTON — The Washington Capitals lost to the Pittsburgh Penguins 2-0 in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals.

The defeat at Verizon Center — and exit from the Stanley Cup Playoffs — occurred a year ago to the day that the Caps saw their postseason end against archrival Pittsburgh.

In last season’s second round, the Pens beat the Caps 4 games to 2.

Pittsburgh’s Bryan Rust and Patric Hornqvist scored goals for the Pens. Goalie Marc Andre Fleury had 29 saves.

The Caps fell to 4-11 all-time in Game 7s, and the Pens improved to an NHL-best 6-0 in Game 7s.
Four of those wins came against Washington.
