Police: Headquarters windows hit by gunshots, no one hurt

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (AP) — Authorities in Virginia say someone fired shots at the Newport News Police headquarters building, striking several windows, but no one was injured.

Police say in a statement posted online that they received reports of gunshots near police headquarters about 2:30 a.m. Tuesday and the building was damaged by several gunshots. Staffers were inside the building at the time, but police say no injuries were reported. Several windows were damaged by the gunfire.

Three windows in the main building were damaged, along with two in the evidence building and one at the records division.

Investigators say they have watched surveillance footage and believe one person on foot fired the shots. They did not release any additional information about the suspect.
