Virginia mom’s Facebook photo of son and cop tops 20K shares

WASHINGTON — Some positive news about a police interaction is getting some attention online.

On May 15, Facebook user and pediatrician Dr. Nada Owusu of Dansville, Virginia posted a picture on Facebook of her son getting help from a police officer. It’s been liked more than 400 times and shared more than 20,000 times.

“Today I salute officer Okes! He is our hero and our ‘Good Samaritan,'” Owusu writes.

According to the Facebook post, Officer Matt Okes, a Virginia state trooper, spotted her son Joseph with a blown-out tire in the late evening hours. The officer tried to help replace the tire and when he couldn’t, waited with Joseph until his family and AAA arrived.

CBS affiliate WTVR reports that Okes shined his cruiser’s lights on Joseph’s car to make sure truckers and drivers along Route 220 could see it while they waited.

Nada Owusu told WTVR that she shared the photo because “there’s a lot of good in this world and people want to hear positive stories.”

She added, “police need our support.”
