WASHINGTON — Six stations will be closed Memorial Day weekend as part of Metro track work.
In addition to the ongoing monthlong shutdown of all five Orange Line stations east of Stadium-Armory, concrete repairs and other work will close Rhode Island Avenue on the Red Line all weekend.
On Monday, the same track work is in effect all day, and trains remain on a weekend schedule. The rail system is scheduled to be open from 7 a.m. to midnight Monday, and parking will be free at all Metro lots.
Major events this weekend include the Rolling Thunder rally Sunday, as well as other Memorial Day remembrances and parades. The Washington Nationals are also at home this weekend.
Orange Line
The New Carrollton, Landover, Cheverly, Deanwood and Minnesota Avenue stations on the Orange Line remain closed through June 15. Metro is running some shuttle buses to serve those stations.
From New Carrollton, the MARC Penn Line’s weekend service is an alternative on Saturday and Sunday, but there is no MARC service on Memorial Day.
People who usually drive to those stations and want to avoid traffic downtown can consider using Green Line stations instead. There is no scheduled Green Line work this weekend.
Orange Line trains are scheduled every 20 minutes over the weekend between Vienna and Largo Town Center. Silver Line trains are scheduled every 20 minutes between Wiehle-Reston East and Stadium-Armory. Blue Line trains are scheduled every 20 minutes, with two stretches of single-tracking. One of those single-tracking stretches is between Reagan National Airport and Braddock Road, so Yellow Line trains are also scheduled only every 20 minutes and will only run between Huntington and Mt. Vernon Square.
Red Line
Red Line riders north of Rhode Island Avenue through Silver Spring and Glenmont should transfer to and from the Green Line at Fort Totten, or consider going directly to Green Line stops, for service to or from downtown D.C.
Metro will have some shuttle buses between Brookland-CUA, Rhode Island Avenue and NoMa-Gallaudet for riders going through the area where tracks are shut down.
Metro plans trains every 15 minutes between Glenmont and Brookland and every 10 minutes between Shady Grove and NoMa.
