NEW YORK (AP) — Teams increased their success rate on video reviews to 53.7% this season, led by the Boston Red Sox at 67.9%.
The percentage of successful team-initiated reviews was up from 48.5% last year and 50.2% in 2022.
Major League Baseball said 661 of 1,230 club challenges led to calls being overturned. There were 237 calls confirmed (19.3%) and 332 allowed to stand (27%) — where there was not enough evidence to confirm or overturn.
The New York Yankees (66.7%), Seattle (65.7%) Arizona (64.1%) and Philadelphia (62.3%) also were among the top five in success rate.
Oakland (43.1%), St. Louis (43.6%), Washington (43.8%) Cincinnati (46%), the Los Angeles Angels (46.3%) and the Chicago White Sox (46.2%) were the least successful.
In addition, there were 163 crew chief reviews initiated by umpires. MLB said those led to 37 overturned calls, a 22.7% rate. Seventy-one calls were confirmed and 37 allowed to stand. Of the crew chief reviews, nine were for rules checks and nine for recordkeeping.
Including crew chief reviews there were 1,393 total reviews, of which 698 were overturned (50.1%), 308 were confirmed (22.1%) and 369 were allowed to stand (26.5%).
The average time of a review was 1 minute, 25 seconds, down from 1:26 last year and 1:31 in 2022.
