McDowell’s only other victory in 453 starts came in the Daytona 500 in 2021. … The race was under a green flag for 77 of the 82 laps. … Shane van Gisbergen, who won his Cup Series debut on the streets of Chicago, finished 10th in his second career start. … Pole-winner Daniel Suarez was third, followed by Tyler Reddick and Alex Bowman. … Non-winners outside the top 16 in points with two races left to clinch playoff berths include Elliott (19th in points) and Alex Bowman (20th). Both trail Bubba Wallace, who stands 16th in the playoff race, by 80 points.

Allmendinger also won the first two stages. … Austin Hill assumed the series points lead by 11 over John Hunter Nemechek and 34 over Justin Allgaier. … The race was red-flagged for 45 minutes because of lightning followed by heavy rain. … There are four races remaining before the 12-driver playoffs begin.
