WASHINGTON — Giant is recalling some of its store brand ice cream bars because of the potential it was contaminated with listeria.
On Wednesday, Giant issued a voluntary recall of its “Store Brand Orange Cream Bars and Ice Cream Bars.”
The following products are included in this recall:
- Giant Brand Orange Cream Bars, 12 count, UPC 68826703292 with best by dates between Jan. 1, 2018 to Dec. 31, 2018.
- Giant Brand Arctic Bars, 12 count, UPC 68826703323 with best by dates between Jan. 1, 2018 to Dec. 31, 2018.
- Polar Express Variety Pack, 30 count, UPC 7163261369 with best by dates between Jan. 1, 2018 to Dec. 31, 2018.
The product were removed from sale. Giant had not yet received any reports of illness associated with these products.
The potential for contamination was noted during routine testing revealed the presence of listeria in only a few ice cream bar samples of many tested, according to the Food and Drug Administration. Consuming food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes can cause listeriosis, an uncommon but potentially fatal disease.
Customers who have purchased the products under the recall should discard any unused portions and bring their purchase receipt to Giant Food for a full refund.
