WASHINGTON — Frozen broccoli cuts sold in 11 states, including Virginia, are being recalled over fears of Listeria contamination.
Alimentos Congelados, S.A. voluntarily recalled 1,800 cases distributed to stores in Virginia, Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, Tennessee, West Virginia, Florida, Georgia, Alabama, South Carolina and North Carolina.
The recalled Wylwood brand is packaged in 1-pound plastic bags.
The affected bags have the following label and codes: label information is UPC 5193300110 and the bag code is A25335P or A15335P.
No illnesses have been associated with the product so far, the company said.
Listeria infection can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, the Food and Drug Administration says Listeria can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.
