1 killed, 2 hurt when car crashes into tree in Dumfries

WASHINGTON — One person was killed and two were hurt, after the car they were in hit a tree Sunday in Prince William County.

It happened just after 3 a.m. in the area of Potomac Shores Parkway and Cherry Hill Road in Dumfries.

The car, a 1992 Honda Civic, was traveling eastbound on Potomac Shores Parkway when the driver, a 19-year-old man, lost control, went off the road and struck a tree, a news release said. He was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

A juvenile male in the front passenger seat was taken to the hospital, where he died. The juvenile male passenger who was in the back of the car has serious injuries.

Charges are pending, according to Prince William County police.
