School board members to hear name suggestions for new high school

WASHINGTON — It doesn’t have a name yet because it’s still being built. That’ll soon change for Prince William County’s 12th high school.

Officials hope it won’t be as tough to name the school as it was to get it approved.  There was a big fight about whether the school should have a $10 million swimming facility. Then, the justice department got involved with the school’s boundaries.

A naming committee of school board members will hold two community meetings on: 7 p.m., April 23 at Benton Middle School in Manassas, and 7 p.m. April 27 at Hylton High School in Woodbridge to take name recommendations.

On May 6, the names will be given to the full school board; two weeks later, on May 20, the board is expected to vote on the school’s new name.

Name suggestions can be historic or geographic. They can be the names of living or dead — people who made local, state or national service contributions.

Questions or name suggestions can be submitted by calling 703 791-7312. Email suggestions to planning@pwcs.edu.
