Prince George’s hospital to increase children’s emergency care

Children’s National Health System and Doctors Community Hospital have launched a new program that will increase pediatric emergency care at Doctors’ Lanham hospital.

Physicians from Children’s will now provide pediatric care in Doctors’ emergency department daily from 1 p.m. to 11 p.m., according to a press release.

Children’s currently has a few primary care affiliates and two outpatient centers in Prince George’s County, one in Upper Marlboro and one in Laurel, but no emergency department presence. The closest Children’s emergency department is at United Medical Center in Ward 8, though that hospital is slated for closure by 2023.

“Our collaboration with Doctors Community Hospital is especially important because families in Prince George’s County will have better access to top-notch pediatric specialty care closer to home during emergencies when children are the most vulnerable,” said Kurt Newman, CEO of Children’s.
