WASHINGTON — A member of the U.S. Navy assigned to the National Security Agency at Fort Meade died in an overnight crash in Upper Marlboro, Maryland State Police said.
Jonathan Javoria Griffin, 34, died at the scene of the crash at about 12:15 a.m.
Maryland State Police were dispatched to Route 301/Crain Highway near the intersection with Village Drive shortly after midnight for a report of a single-vehicle crash, according to a news release.
Griffin’s 2015 red Dodge Challenger had crashed into a light support pole and a guardrail, police said.
The car, which sustained heavy damage, was in the southbound lane facing west. Debris from the collision was also strewn into the northbound lanes.
The northbound and southbound lanes of that portion of Route 301 were closed from Marlboro Pike to Village Drive until 3:20 a.m. for the investigation into the crash, police said.
