Body found during Md. cleanup is retired U.Md. professor

WASHINGTON — The body found by University of Maryland students while picking up litter over the weekend is that of retired professor Stan Fromovitz, according to Prince George’s County police.

Police say Fromovitz, 80, was last seen by his condominium neighbors March 8 at his home in the 6100 block of Westchester Park Drive in College Park, Maryland.

The students were taking part in the sixth annual “Good Neighbor Day” Saturday when they discovered the body in Indian Creek, in the Lake Artemsia Natural Area of College Park.

Police had been searching for the retired professor, including an exhaustive March 16 search of Greenbelt National Park, where Fromovitz was known to enjoy hikes.

“We do not have any reason to believe, whatsoever, that there’s foul play involved in this case,” said Deputy Chief Sammy Patel, head of the Bureau of Investigations, Prince George’s County Police Department.
