WASHINGTON — Two University of Maryland football players are facing charges after prosecutors say they fired BB guns at fellow students. Now the men are off the team.
Lorenzo Harrison III of Clinton and Darryl “DJ” Turner II of Glenarden, both 19 years old, are facing second-degree assault and reckless endangerment charges, along with separate charges for violating the schools’ code of conduct.
Earlier this month, University of Maryland investigators began looking into three reports of students hit by what they believed were pellets while on campus.
The freshman football players, who both hail from DeMatha Catholic High School, used airsoft guns to shoot at the students, police said.
In a statement, Maryland Athletics said in part, “the two student-athletes involved have been suspended indefinitely for violating the student-athlete code of conduct.”
Both freshmen students, Harrison was a starting running back and Turner a wide receiver for the Terps.
