2 dead in early morning crashes in Prince George’s Co.

WASHINGTON — Two nearly back-to-back vehicle crashes in Prince George’s County on Saturday morning killed two people, authorities say.

Both collisions occurred shortly after 3 a.m. and  caused multiple lanes  closures southbound Interstate 495 for several hours.

One crash occurred in District Heights, when the driver of an SUV struck a Toyota Camry. Police said the impact caused the SUV to travel off the roadway, strike the guardrail and overturn.

The driver of the SUV, trapped inside the vehicle, was pronounced dead on the scene by EMS personnel. No other people were injured, officials said.

The other crash involved a motorcycle and Nissan Sentra in Oxon Hill. Authorities said the motorcyclist collided into the rear of the car, causing both vehicles to travel off the roadway. The car overturned, but the driver was uninjured.

The  driver of the Nissan refused medical treatment on scene. The motorcyclist was transported to United Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased.

Police ask that anyone with information regarding the crashes to contact the Maryland State Police Forestville Barrack at 301-586-8101.
