Police: Woman sexually assaulted near Md. mall

WASHINGTON — Greenbelt police are searching for a suspect they say sexually assaulted a woman after she left a mall.

According to police, the woman was shopping at Beltway Plaza, located at 6000 Greenbelt Road, around 9:45 p.m. Monday when she was approached by a man who began talking to her.

The woman left the mall with the man still attempting to continue the conversation. Police say the suspect and woman then parted ways.

Police say the woman walked across Breezewood Drive toward a house when she encountered the man again, who walked with her for a while.

The suspect then took out a knife, threatened the woman, pulled her into a wooded area in the 5900 block of Cherrywood Terrace and sexually assaulted her, according to police.

The suspect is described as a 5-foot male with a light complexion and muscular build. Police say he was wearing a black T-shirt with a pink emblem on the front, dark pants and gray sneakers with a green trim.

Below is a map of the mall and location where police say the sexual assault occurred.
