Man killed by police in Greenbelt standoff

WASHINGTON — A man was shot dead Monday by police after he barricaded himself in his Greenbelt, Maryland apartment and fired his gun off his balcony, police say.

Greenbelt police say that they received a call at about 10:30 p.m. that a man was shooting a gun near the 6200 block of Springhill Court. They say that when they arrived, they found him shooting off a third-floor balcony, and that he eventually fired at officers.

A Greenbelt officer shot the man, the police say, and the Prince George’s County Tactical Unit entered the residence.

The man was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead there. The police haven’t released his name yet, only saying he was 28 years old. No one else was hurt.

The investigation continues.
