WASHINGTON — A fire ripped through a popular diner in College Park on Thursday.

The kitchen fire broke out at Plato’s Diner — along Route 1 around 12 p.m. — not far from the University of Maryland, College Park.

The Prince George’s County Fire Department says the fire caused extensive damage. It’s not clear when the diner will re-open.
