OXON HILL, Md. (AP) — Prince George’s County Police say a day care provider has been charged in the death of 9-month-old girl in her care.
Police said in a statement Friday that 43-year-old Beatrice Manning has been charged with first-degree murder, assault and child abuse in the death of Savannah Wright.
Police say Manning called 911 from her Oxon Hill home on Dec. 2 saying the baby was unresponsive. Police say detectives called to the Children’s National Medical Center were notified that Savannah had a brain injury. She died two days later.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled Savannah’s death a homicide and found the cause of death was blunt force injury to the head. Police say the investigation revealed she was injured in Manning’s care.
Manning is being held without bond.
Although the child passed away in December, Prince George’s County Police homicide detectives were notified of the D.C. medical examiner’s findings just last week — on March 28.
