2 killed in head-on motorcycle crash in Laurel

WASHINGTON – Two motorcyclists were killed in a head-on crash Sunday in Laurel, Maryland.

Fahad Iqbal, 23, of Laurel and Hubert Harrison Jr., 63, of Bowie were killed. Harrison was a veteran firefighter in Baltimore County who was on his way home from work.

According to Prince George’s County police, the crash happened at around 4:40 a.m. in the 11500 block of Laurel-Bowie Road. Iqbal was heading northbound on Laurel-Bowie Road on a slight curve, when for an unknown reason, he crossed the center line and struck Harrison head on, police said.
Both motorcyclists died at the scene.

According to Baltimore County officials, Harrison had served with the Baltimore County Fire Department for nearly 29 years. He was promoted to lieutenant in 2009.

“This is a terrible loss for the Fire Department and an even greater tragedy for Lt. Harrison’s family,” Fire Chief John Hohman said in a statement. “We offer heartfelt condolences to his wife and loved ones, and will offer all the support we can in the difficult days ahead.”
