Police make arrest in park shooting

WASHINGTON – One of three people injured in a Springdale park shooting was the gunman responsible for the death of a 21-year-old Prince George’s County man, police say.

Alonzo D. Lloyd, 21, and Jeramey L. Williams, 21, both of Springdale, shot at one another after an argument at Ardmore Neighborhood Park Sunday afternoon. The exchange of bullets injured Lloyd and two others and killed Williams, according to Prince George’s County police.

Lloyd was treated, released and taken into police custody. He admitted his involvement in the shooting and was charged with second-degree murder for Williams’ death, police say.

A second shooting victim remained in critical condition Monday. The third victim was a bystander who suffered a graze wound, according to police.

Their names have not been released.

Police say a car pulled into the park by the basketball courts and that’s when the shooting began about 2:15 p.m.

The park was full of people enjoying the afternoon when Sandy Brady, who was standing in the door to his house nearby, heard what he thought was fireworks.

“I thought somebody was shooting some fireworks. All I could hear was pow, pow, pow,” he says.

Brady has lived next to the park since 1997 and his granddaughter now attends the elementary school across the street. He worried that there would be another shooting if police didn’t catch whomever was responsible.
