WASHINGTON — Before and during Pope Francis’ address to a joint meeting of Congress on Thursday, a rally will be held in support of his stance on climate change.
The Moral Action on Climate rally will be held on the National Mall between 3rd and 7th streets on Thursday between 7:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Pope Francis is set to address Congress at about 9:15 a.m.
While the content of the pope’s remarks to Congress isn’t known, it’s anticipated that he will address the topic on Thursday — which has led one Catholic Republican member of the House to announce he won’t go to the address.
The lineup includes performers such as Moby, Sean Paul and Natasha Bedingfield; the MCs include Chevy Chase.
“The Moral Action on Climate Rally provides an opportunity to elevate concerns about the climate crisis while Pope Francis is speaking to Congress in the Capitol,” the organizers say.
“This historic mobilization is a key step towards a safer, renewable energy-powered world. … The American people will be watching and world leaders will see and hear that we are a growing and powerful moral movement, touching people from all walks of life.”
