Pet of the Week: 2018 pets

Pet of the Week: Pinch and Snippet Pinch (left) and Snippet were born at the Humane Rescue Alliance with nine other siblings. The neonatal pups went directly to foster care and have been growing up big and strong the past several months. Pinch, the runt of the litter, is as sweet as they come, and she loves nothing more than to snuggle up with her favorite people. Her sister Snippet is a ball of energy and always ready to play. We’d love to find each of these puppies and their siblings a patient, loving home to call their own. Meet them at HRA’s Oglethorpe Street adoption center. (Courtesy Humane Rescue Alliance)
Moo Moo loves to play, and nap, and is looking for a family that enjoys the same activities she does. Moo Moo came to the Humane Rescue Alliance when her previous owner had to move, and sadly, couldn’t bring Moo Moo along. Since coming to HRA, Moo Moo has been working on her manners and would do well with an adopter that will help her continue to learn and thrive. (Courtesy Humane Rescue Alliance)
Pet of the Week: Moo Moo For the week of Dec. 17 Meet Moo Moo! No, not the cow, just your adorable, silly, wiggly new best friend! At just 10-months-old, Moo Moo is full of energy and super excited to say hello to everyone she meets. Think this adorable pup is the one for you? Meet and adopt Moo Moo from HRA’s Oglethorpe Street adoption center. (Courtesy Humane Rescue Alliance)
Pet of the Week: Reeses For the week of Dec. 10 This sweet senior has been in Humane Rescue Alliance’s care for 110 days! At 11 years old, she’s understandably more interested in a Netflix marathon than an actual marathon, but still gets exited to go for a walk. Reeses has been working to loose some extra weight to help with her arthritic legs and is feeling much better these days. She would do best as the only dog in the home, but with this pup, she’s all you need. Think this goofy, fun-loving senior is the dog for you? Meet, adopt, and go home with her today from HRA’s Oglethorpe Street adoption center. As an added bonus, Reeses adoption fee is waived as part of a special promotion to help get our longest shelter residents adopted this year! (Courtesy Humane Rescue Alliance)
Pet of the Week: Coria For the week of Dec. 3 Coria is a tiny, three-year-old girl who has made a big impression on the staff and volunteers of the Humane Rescue Alliance. While she can be a bit shy at first, once she gets to know you she’s a sweet, social pup who loves adults and kids alike. Unfortunately, and through no fault of her own, this is Coria’s second time at HRA. We’d love to find Coria a new home where she can enjoy plenty of cuddle time, her favorite activity, and a family that will help her continue to work on her confidence. Meet her at HRA’s Oglethorpe Street adoption center! (Courtesy Humane Rescue Alliance)
Pet of the Week: Radar For the week of Nov. 26 Radar is a sweet pup who was found alone as a stray before being brought to the Humane Rescue Alliance. At just 1 year old, Radar is extremely friendly and a bundle of energy and kisses. We’d love to help him find a family who can teach him some new tricks, and take him on plenty of adventures, especially hiking and jogging, which are his favorite activities! With those big ears, Radar is a great listener, too, and would benefit from continued training classes to work on his basic manners. If you’re looking for a smart, goofy, wiggly, running buddy Radar might be the pup for you! Meet him at HRA’s Oglethorpe Street adoption center. (Courtesy Humane Rescue Alliance)
Pet of the Week: Zane
For the week of Nov. 19 Zane is a super sweet girl loves to play and hang out with her people. She is three years old and came to the Humane Rescue Alliance when her previous owner was no longer able to care for her. She gets along well with other dogs and we’d be thrilled to find her a family that will help her continue to work on her basic manners. She already knows sit and shake! Zane is happiest with her people, whether it’s playing outside or snuggled up together inside. If she sounds like the ideal dog for you, meet her at our Oglethorpe Street adoption center!  (Courtesy Humane Rescue Alliance)
Pet of the Week: Citgo For the week of Nov. 12 Citgo is a cool, playful guy looking to be your new best friend! He is a really fun one year-old who is always ready for exercise, adventures and basically taking on the world with his new human. Citgo has done well with other dogs he has met at Humane Rescue Alliance, and he is extremely smart, already learning training commands! Found as a stray, Citgo is very handsome, active and full of love. He can’t wait to find his forever home. Come out to our Oglethorpe Street Adoption Center to meet Citgo today! (Courtesy Humane Rescue Alliance)
Pet of the Week: Oggie For the week of Nov. 5 Meet Oggie! He’s three years old and came to the Humane Rescue Alliance when he was found in an abandoned building. This sweet guy loves to play with toys, especially tennis balls and rope toys. He gets along very well with other dogs, and loves going on doggy-play dates, but he prefers a home without small children, as they make him a little nervous. Very friendly and up for lots of fun, Oggie’s tail wags at the first sight of attention, and he loves having his head and butt scratched. Riding in a car with the windows down is Oggie’s idea of a perfect day. If this sounds like the ideal dog for you, come out to our Oglethorpe Street Adoption Center to meet Oggie today! (Courtesy Humane Rescue Alliance)
Pet of the Week: Kingston For the week of Oct. 29 This fun-loving guy wants nothing more than to prove that tripod dogs can do anything! Kingston came to Humane Rescue Alliance (HRA) as a stray with a severely injured leg. Our veterinarians determined that the leg would not be able to heal, so it was removed … and this guy hasn’t missed a beat! Kingston loves playtime and couch time, and he’s done well with some of the other dogs he has met at HRA (mostly ones who share his love of wrestling)! At 11 months old, he’s a terrific youngster, but some training classes to channel some of his puppy energy would be great for him. If Kingston seems like your kind of buddy, come out to meet him today at HRA’s Oglethorpe adoption center! (Courtesy Humane Rescue Alliance)
Pet of the Week: Tuft For the week of Oct. 22 With maybe one of the cutest faces you’ll ever see, with great “wrinkles” and ears  that flop perfectly, Tuft is one handsome boy that can’t wait to find his new home! Tuft was surrendered by his family when they could no longer take care of him. He is a bit shy at first, but once he warms up, he’s in your lap! Tuft loves to “lean” on his humans, as well as plant a few kisses when he’s looking for affection. He also loves to run and play like any young dog.  However, at two years old, Tuft is through the “puppy” years and now hoping to make a human very happy as a constant companion. Come out to our Oglethorpe Street Adoption Center and meet Tuft today! (Courtesy Humane Rescue Alliance)

Pets of the week: Meet Georgina and Leah For the week of Oct. 15 These two turtles are Red Eared Sliders and they make great pets, especially for families interested in learning about reptiles. Red Eared Sliders are semi-aquatic turtles native to the southern United States and Mexico. They are invasive in some areas, including the Washington, D.C. area, so they must be kept as pets and not be released into the wild. If you would like to adopt a Red Eared Slider, stop by either of HRA’s two shelters, as we have numerous turtles up for adoption! (Courtesy Humane Rescue Alliance)
Pet of the Week: Alyssa For the week of Oct. 8 Alyssa is a sweet eight month old with lots of energy, who loves to be outside! She has had quite an adventure in her eight months — she came from Louisiana, then stopped at another shelter in the area before arriving at Humane Rescue Alliance — so she would love some stability and routine in her new home. Alyssa does well around all kinds of people, including children! She would love to play outside and go for lots of nice, long walks, to burn some of her “puppy energy.” She would do well with an adopter who enjoys being outside and is willing to spend some extra time with Alyssa as she learns the ways of the world. Come out to meet this beautiful youngster today at the Humane Rescue Alliance’s Oglethorpe Street Adoption Center.  (Courtesy Humane Rescue Alliance)
Pet of the Week: Jake For the week of Oct. 1 Meet Jake, a sweet senior citizen looking for some love and TLC. Jake is a lap-loving, couch-sitting type of guy, who, at 13 years old, might be an older gentleman, but is still a spry little guy with lots of love to give. Jake came to HRA when his owner entered a nursing home and could no longer take care of him. If Jake sounds like the boy for you, please come by and visit him at our Oglethorpe Street location.  (Courtesy Humane Rescue Alliance)
Pet of the Week: Ryder

For the week of Sept. 24

Ryder came to the Humane Rescue Alliance in advance of Hurricane Florence. He is a big, goofy, friendly guy, looking for someone who is ready to make him a member of the family!

His favorite activities involve playing with his human, playing with toys and lots of adventures. He loves attention, so his adopter should be ready for a companion who cannot get enough love and petting! At 3 years old, he’s at a great age — those puppy days are gone, but he is still active and ready for fun.

See him on Youtube, then come out and meet Ryder at HRA’s Oglethorpe Street Adoption Center!

Pet of the Week: Dillon  For the week of Sept. 17 Found as a stray, 5-year-old Dillon is looking for a quiet home to call his own. This friendly, sweet boy has handsome brindle markings and a large frame – at 88 pounds, Dillon needs to lose some weight, and he is certainly up for several nice walks each day where he can sniff every bush, tree and blade of grass! Dillon loves to be around people and will do well in a stable home where he will be the focus of everyone’s attention. Dillon qualifies for the Boomers Buddies program, so if an adopter is over 50 years old, HRA will waive his adoption fee. If Dillon is the dog for you, meet him at HRA’s Oglethorpe Street adoption center. (Courtesy Humane Rescue Alliance)

This sweet senior was found wondering the streets of D.C., alone, by one of Hume Rescue Alliance’s animal control officers. At 10 years old, Abuelo is ready to find a loving home to call his own. He’s happiest when relaxing next to you on the couch, but he also enjoys the company of other dogs. Since coming to HRA, Abuelo was added to HRA’s shelter scholars program to give him some extra one-on-one time with staff and volunteers. Think Abuelo is the perfect match for you? Meet him at HRA’s Oglethorpe Street adoption center. (Courtesy Humane Rescue Alliance)

Marshmallow is a gentle giant, despite looking like a big strong guy. (Courtesy Humane Rescue Alliance)
Pet of the Week: Marshmallow For the week of Aug. 20 Meet Marshmallow! Even though he looks like a big strong guy, he is really a gentle giant. He’s a pretty chill guy who doesn’t mind hanging out at your feet and chewing on a bone while you get some work done. He loves taking long walks. He is not very comfortable being around other animals, so he needs to be your only furry friend. He’s also not a big fan of dog parks. Don’t worry though, the big guy is mostly content to just stay home and relax while his humans watch TV or just spend time together. His quiet nature means that he would be happiest in a home without small children. If you think a big, quiet boy like Marshmallow is the one for you, come meet him today at HRA’s Oglethorpe Street adoption center. In addition to all of that, his adoption fee has been waived! You can watch his adoption video here. (Courtesy Humane Rescue Alliance)
Pet of the Week: Snowflake For the week of Aug. 13 Meet Snowflake, who is aptly named because she is truly “one of a kind.” Snowflake is a sweetheart, and at just over 1, she is 50 pounds, but considers herself a lap dog. Snowflake is looking forward to many cozy nights cuddling with her adopter on the couch, but is also thrilled to get out for walks and see the world. She has lived with children before and understands how to be gentle with smaller humans.  She also loves other dogs! Surrendered because her family moved and could not take her, this young lady has a lot going for her and cannot wait to find her new home. Come out to HRA’s Oglethorpe Street adoption center and meet Snowflake today! (You can watch her adoption video here.)
Pet of the Week: Zeta For the week of Aug. 6 This 4-year-old beauty can’t wait to find a place to call home.  A bit shy and fearful, Zeta would love some quality TLC, as she has not had a stable home environment in several months. Her adopter should be patient and willing to help Zeta build her confidence and teach her what the world is all about. Once she warms up, Zeta is extra sweet (and some treats could definitely help with that process). When she comes out of her shell, she’s a wiggly, happy, loving dog! She  would do best as the only animal in the home … more attention for her! Zeta’s fee has been waived, so come out meet this girl. She’s got lots of love to give.
Pet of the Week: Trucker For the week of July 30 Meet Trucker! This little guy has already had more than his share of struggles in his life and will be thrilled to find his own, stable home. Originally found as a tiny, stray puppy, Trucker arrived at the Humane Rescue Alliance as a typical (very cute) puppy, and he quickly found a home. But after breaking his leg, his owner could not afford the medical treatment necessary, and he was surrendered back to HRA. The medical staff at HRA determined that his severely damaged leg would need to be amputated, so Trucker is now a “tri-pawd.” He is still getting accustomed to the idea of three legs, but that hasn’t stopped this 4-month-old from doing his best to be a puppy. He loves to play, investigate new things, sniff, chew, tug, and everything else that little puppies love. His adopter will need to be patient with him as he adjusts to life with three legs. Come out to HRA’s Oglethorpe Street Adoption Center today and met Trucker, and watch his video here. (Courtesy Humane Rescue Alliance)
Pet of the Week: Barry For the week of July 23 Meet Barry! With a unique combination of intelligence, size, goofiness and “lovability,” Barry is thrilled to be this week’s Pet of the Week. Since coming to the Humane Rescue Alliance as a stray, it is apparent that Barry is a very quick learner, having mastered “down,” “paw,”  and “touch” (see video below). Barry is an extra-large dog , weighing in at over 100 lbs., but he also has an extra-large heart. His favorite activity is hanging out with people and “leaning” on humans for attention and petting.  At just over 1 year old, he also loves to play, especially chasing a tennis ball and enjoying squeaky toys. After a nice walk and playtime, Barry also loves to curl up and take a nap right at your feet. Come out to HRA’s Oglethorpe Street Adoption Center and meet this lovable lug today. Watch Barry’s video here. (Courtesy Humane Rescue Alliance)
Pet of the Week: Butler For the week of July 16 Meet Butler! Butler is a very friendly dog and loves human interaction from adults and children. He would probably do best in a single dog home, but wouldn’t mind meeting new dog neighbors. He is 8 years old, and enjoys lazy mornings and long walks through the woods, but he is active enough to go on a run or long hike. Butler is a big fan of riding in the car, so a road trip or RV would be a great match for this guy. Butler came to Humane Rescue Alliance as a stray, so he may be a little shy at first, but he warms up quickly. Since he’s 8, Butler qualifies for our Boomers Buddies program, so if an adopter is over 50, we’ll waive the adoption fee. Come out to meet Butler at HRA’s Oglethorpe Street adoption center, and click here to watch Butler’s video.
Pet of the Week: Precious  For the week of July 9 True to her name, this dog is Precious. This senior girl is laid back, sweet and only wants to please. While she’s certainly willing to take a slow walk with you, she’s most interested in belly rubs whenever she can get them and a quiet place to call home. She is a large dog, weighing in at 70 lbs., and her calm, easy going demeanor makes her a wonderful companion. Precious came to the Humane Rescue Alliance when the family encountered issues with their landlord and were forced to surrender her.  At 9 years old, she can’t wait to find her new, forever family. Precious qualifies for our “Boomers Buddies” program, so if an adopter is 50 years or older, we’ll waive her adoption fee. Come out to our Oglethorpe Street Adoption Center to meet Precious today! (Courtesy Humane Rescue Alliance)
Pet of the Week: Regina For the week of July 2 Meet Regina! This 8-year-old lady is anxious to find a home with her own comfy living space, away from the hustle and bustle of the world. Regina likes things a little more mellow and wants to spend her senior years by her human’s side, whether that’s on a nice slow stroll outside or curled up on the sofa. Regina was surrendered when her family moved and could not take her with them, so she can’t wait to find a new place to call home and a family to love. At 8 years old, Regina qualifies for our Boomers Buddies program, so if an adopter is over the age of 50, we’ll waive the adoption fee. Come out to our Oglethorpe Street location today to meet Regina! (Courtesy Humane Rescue Alliance)
Pet of the Week: Pluto For the week of June 25 Meet Pluto! This sweet 3-year-old is a very playful, goofy, high-energy pup. Pluto was found as a stray in D.C. and was brought to the Humane Rescue Alliance by a concerned citizen. Since arriving, Pluto has become a favorite of staff and volunteers, and would do well with a family that loves to play as much as he does. (The quickest way to his heart is with toys!) And if you have another dog at home, that’s great: Pluto doesn’t mind sharing. Meet this cool pup at Humane Rescue Alliance’s Oglethorpe Street adoption center. (Courtesy Humane Rescue Alliance)
Pet of the Week: Rosa For the week of June 18 Meet Rosa! This sweet 9-month-old pup is learning her way in the world and enjoying every minute of it. Rosa was found running at large in D.C. and was brought to HRA by a concerned citizen. Since arriving, Rosa has been working with our animal care team as well as our behavior and training team to learn good manners.  She’s doing well, but like any young kid, she’s happy to test the boundaries and see what she can get away with. Rosa is very good-natured and fun loving. She loves to find your lap and lick your hands, and she’s a big fan of treats and toys. And like any puppy, she has lots of energy. Come out to HRA’s Oglethorpe Street adoption center and meet Rosa today! (Humane Rescue Alliance)
Pet of the Week: Rodeo For the week of June 11 Meet Rodeo! Rodeo is an 8-year-old shepherd mix that can’t wait to find his new home. Rodeo’s family was forced to move and could no longer care for him, so he is anxious to meet a new, forever family. Rodeo is shy at first, but warms up very quickly.  He has lived in a home with children most of his life  However, he is not a fan of cats!!  While he loves a good walk and to put his nose on the ground to see what the world has to offer, he is equally happy curling up on the couch with people and being the center of attention. Make Rodeo a happy guy and come by HRA’s Oglethorpe Street location and meet him today! (Courtesy Humane Rescue Alliance)
Pet of the Week: Paxton For the week of June 11 Meet Paxton! Paxton is a distinguished senior citizen who is looking forward to returning to a home of his own. This 8-year-old terrier mix came to the Humane Rescue Alliance when his owner could no longer afford to take care of him.  When he arrived at the shelter, Paxton needed a haircut!  His fur was extremely matted, but after nice shave, he feels much better! A friendly guy, Paxton is a little on the “pudgy” side, but he’s working on dropping some weight.  His favorite activities are being pampered, brushed and curling up with humans! He would do best in a quiet household and with an adopter that will be careful with his diet and exercise.  Come out to meet Paxton at HRA’s Oglethorpe Street location….maybe you will be human of his dreams! Learn more about Paxton in his video. (Courtesy Humane Rescue Alliance)

He loves treats (especially hot dogs and cheese) and getting his chin scratched. Marco is a little shy and is still getting used to exploring new places, but when he relaxes, he makes some of the best “snorting” sounds you can imagine. He would love to live in a quiet and caring home without too many stairs.  Marco is only 2 years old, but it has been a rough two years, so he can’t wait to find his forever home with just the right adopter.  Come out to HRA’s Oglethorpe Street Adoption Center and meet this big guy! Learn more about Marco in his video. (Humane Rescue Alliance)

He came to HRA on a transport from a partner shelter in Alabama to find a home in the D.C. area, and he can’t wait to meet his new family.  Doogie is a big fan of humans and loves to get treats and attention. With his size (a solid 70 pounds) Doogie would benefit from continued training and exercise to stay in good habits. At 3 years old, this big guy still has lots of energy, so playing in the backyard or taking fun walks and hikes would be a big hit, With his good nature and pleasant demeanor, we think Doogie will be a wonderful pet. So come out to our Oglethorpe Street Adoption Center and meet him today! (You can also watch a video on Doogie.) (Humane Rescue Alliance)

Frank is an old soul, trapped in a young body.  Easygoing and a snuggle buddy, Frank is a little shy at first meeting, but anxious to meet his new forever family.  He’s only 2 years old, but loves “old folks things,” like relaxing on the couch, ambling around the neighborhood with his people, and then relaxing again. Frank can get overwhelmed by new or hectic situations, so he’s looking for a quieter place where he can do things at his own speed.  This medium-size dog and is very sweet and would do best in a home without small children (12 and older would be best). Come out to our Oglethorpe Street adoption center and meet Frank today! (Humane Rescue Alliance)

She was a little nervous when she first came to the Humane Rescue Alliance, having been surrendered when her family brought a newborn child home and were no longer able to care for her.  Now, Baby has grown into a sweet and friendly girl who is ready for a new home!  She is okay with other dogs, but her enthusiastic play style isn’t popular with some dogs. At 9 months old, Baby is still …. well, a baby. But she’s learning about life every day and can’t wait to share her experiences with a new forever family.  Come out to HRA’s Oglethorpe Street facility today to meet Baby! (Humane Rescue Alliance)

Max can be a little tentative and scared at times until he warms up, so he needs an adopter who can build up his confidence. He would be happiest in a home without little children or other dogs, but he has lived with cats before. Once comfortable with his surroundings, he is the sweetest little guy around. He likes to jump up for attention and will lay his head in your lap for ear scratches. Max has plenty of energy for walks or playtime, and he’s always happy to spend time near his people. She’s still a young girl at just over 1 year old, and definitely has some energy, but she’s very loyal and enjoys being around her humans. In fact, she can be a bit of a lap dog — and at 50 lbs., she doesn’t seem to know her size! Come meet Espresso today and give her the love she deserves. Espresso is at HRA’s Oglethorpe Street location. Watch her video here. (Humane Rescue Alliance)

At almost 60 pounds, Vern packs a lot into a fairly small body, and after a nice long walk or play date outside, he’ll be thrilled to curl up on the couch with his human companion. Vern qualifies for HRA’s Boomers Buddies program, so if an adopter is 50 or older, Vern’s adoption fee will be waived.  Come out to meet Vern at the HRA’s Oglethorpe Street shelter soon — because he can’t wait to meet you! (Humane Rescue Alliance)
Pet of the Week: Lucky For the week of March 12 Is today your “lucky” day?  Meet Lucky, a handsome 3-year-old who can’t wait to please!  Lucky came to Humane Rescue Alliance when his family could no longer care for him. He is a sweet dog who walks well on leash and is friendly to other dogs. He loves running with his foster mama and when he’s ready to nap, slips into his crate for a long snooze. Lucky is very eager to please and loves learning new skills. Play time is his favorite part of the day and he simply loves the attention. He’s a sweetheart who would make the perfect TV-watching buddy. Lucky is the epitome of a man’s best friend, so come out and meet this guy today at the Humane Rescue Alliance’s Oglethorpe Street location. (Courtesy Humane Rescue Alliance)
Pet of the Week: Red Gerard For the week of March 5  Meet Red Gerard: This happy, playful, 10-year-old snuggle bug loves stuffed toys and rope toys — really, he just loves to play. True to his name, this guy deserves a gold medal for his friendliness. Red Gerard loves other dogs; he wants to be active, explore everything and meet everyone. He does well in his crate, especially when he has a chew toy to occupy his time, but would much rather spend time with you, relaxing around the house. Speaking of relaxing, Red loves to snuggle and be the center of attention. He loves the outdoors — taking a hike and running in the grass.  Basically, Red Gerard is an all-around great guy.  Come out and meet Red Gerard today at the Humane Rescue Alliance Oglethorpe Street location. As an added bonus, if you’re over the age of 50, we will waive the  adoption fee as part of the Boomer’s Buddies program. (Humane Rescue Alliance)
Pet of the Week: Beemer  For the week of Feb. 26  Beemer is a handsome, 9-year-old Standard Poodle mix who cannot wait to find his new forever home. He was surrendered to the Humane Rescue Alliance when his family moved and could not take him with them. Beemer is a very friendly dog who absolutely loves to meet new people. He previously lived in a home with children of all ages, so he’s very comfortable in a family atmosphere. However, he is selective when meeting other dogs, so a “meet and greet” would need to take place if a prospective adopter already has a dog. At 9 years old, Beemer qualifies for HRA’s Boomers’ Buddies program, so if a potential adopter is over 50 years old, we will waive the adoption fee. Come out to our Oglethorpe Street Adoption Center to meet Beemer! (Courtesy Humane Rescue Alliance )
Pet of the Week: Roberto For the week of Feb. 19  Meet Roberto! This 5-year-old terrier mix loves people and playtime. Roberto came to the Humane Rescue Alliance after being picked up as a stray in Washington, D.C. He’s very social with a warm, playful personality that is sure to charm anyone looking to add a furry family member.  This little guy is equally thrilled to be walking with his nose down or climbing into your arms for a warmth and companionship. Roberto is somewhat small in stature and needs to gain weight, but with his personality and demeanor, once he’s in a stable home environment, he’s sure to flourish. Come out to our Oglethorpe Street Adoption Center and meet Roberto today! (WTOP/Rachel Nania)
Pet of the Week: Jessie  For the week of Feb. 5  Meet Jessie! This young girl has had a rough initial 20 months of life. Jessie was found as a stray in D.C. and was very shy when she arrived. During her stay at Humane Rescue Alliance, the behavior and training team worked closely with her in an effort to build her confidence and bring her out of her shell. She has made significant progress, and is now happy to play and be goofy in the dog park. However, she is still learning to be brave and is bit of a wallflower — especially when she first meets you.  For that reason, she would do better in a home without small children. Unfortunately, at some time in her short life, someone removed Jessie’s ears in what was likely a very painful episode. But her happy, cheerful face and a few licks to your hand will quickly endear her, and she’ll be a wonderful pet for an adopter that is willing to be patient and allow this low-key gal to blossom. Come out to meet Jessie today at our Oglethorpe Street adoption center. (Humane Rescue Alliance)
Pet of the Week: Bella  For the week of Jan. 29 Meet Bella!  This 1-year-old lady is waiting for her adopter to come and scoop her up. She came to the Humane Rescue Alliance when her owners moved and couldn’t take her with them. Bella is a terrific dog and would do well with an active family with no small children or other animals, as she’s still working on her manners. That said, Bella is very smart and a quick learner, so with some basic training classes, she will truly blossom. In addition to training, Bella could use lots of exercise — she loves long walks, hikes and runs — and they are good for her, as she’s a big girl that needs to watch her waistline a bit.  But she’s eager to please, loves people and can’t wait to find her way to a new home.  Come out to our Oglethorpe Street Adoption Center and meet Bella today! (Humane Rescue Alliance)
Pet of the Week: Mac  For the week of Jan. 22 Meet Mac! Mac is a 2-year-old “hunk” of a dog. This guy weighs approximately 60 pounds, but he’s not overly large — he’s just built like a cement block. Mac is very sweet and loves to be around people. He had a rough start (he was found as a stray in D.C.), but he’s learning more every day and absolutely loves to be the center of attention. He also loves to run in the park, but right now it’s best if he’s the only dog, as he still has some things to learn regarding patience and manners with other dogs. A few nice, solo walks during the day, and a warm, soft couch at night with his new family will be absolutely perfect for him. Mac will be thrilled to find a new, permanent place to call home. Come meet Mac at our Oglethorpe Street Adoption Center today!   (Humane Rescue Alliance)
Pet of the Week: Otto For the week of Jan. 15 Meet Otto! Otto is an easy-going, affectionate guy looking for a forever home where he can lean in for lots of doggie love. Found as a stray in D.C., Otto is very people-friendly and fun-loving, and wants to be with his human on walks and runs and when meeting friends. At 6 years old, Otto likes to keep things simple and prefers a home with no cats or dogs, as he wants to keep his humans just for himself. He’s looking for a family with adults or kids over 12, and room in their hearts for a sweet and loving dog. Otto qualifies for our Boomers Buddies program, so if you are over the age of 50, we’ll waive Otto’s adoption fee. Come out to our Oglethorpe Street Adoption Center and meet Otto today!
Pet of the Week: Bronx For the week of Jan. 8 Meet Bronx! This sweet 6-month old puppy found herself with a fractured front leg that caused nerve damage and did not heal well. Amputation was the recommended course of action and today – now a “tri-pawd” — Bronx is pain-free! Bronx hasn’t let this challenge hold her back in the least and she hasn’t slowed down at all. She is eager to make new friends, see the world and find her forever family! Her extremely soft fawn and white coat is beautiful, and her white mask and prominent ears couldn’t be cuter. Bronx is very much a puppy, and is learning new things about life every day (and burning off lots of energy in the process). But she’s eager to please and has a warm personality. This lovely girl can’t wait to meet you. Stop by the Oglethorpe Street shelter to meet her! See a video of Bronx here. (Lenore Boulet)
Pet of the Week: Willie For the week of Jan. 1 Meet Willie, a 92-pound lovable lug of a dog who just loves life. This handsome, strong and happy dog has a beautiful gray-and-white short coat and perhaps the largest head you’ve ever seen. He’s extremely friendly, great with kids of all ages and, at 2 years old, has lots of energy. He’s an all-around goofball. A few good walks each day and some fun, interactive games will make Willie a very happy boy (as long has he gets to finish the day on the couch with his new forever family). Because of his size and strength, Willie would be best with someone who has had dogs in the family before. Willie seems to get along well with other dogs, but if a potential adopter has another dog, it’s probably best to introduce them first before proceeding with the adoption, just to make sure everyone is happy. Meet Willie at the Oglethorpe Street Adoption Center today.

Pet of the week: Elsa

For the week of Oct. 15

Just in time for cooler weather, meet this beautiful lady – Elsa! A seven year-old husky mix, Elsa loves to lounge on soft beds or sofas, and is a big fan of snacks and watching his favorite movie FROZEN with his human family. Elsa is mature and doesn’t mind living with children. She’s very happy around people and longs to be in a place to call home. If you think Elsa sounds like the perfect match for you, come over to the Humane Rescue Alliance’s Oglethorpe Street location and meet Elsa today!

Meet Tina!

This adorable fluffy ball of love and cuddles was found as a stray in D.C. She’s 7 years young and sweet as can be. Her two favorite activities ARE spending time with people (especially a new best friend) and taking walks.

Tina is very curious about all the exciting things in the neighborhood, and but also loves snuggling when she’s done with her walk and ready to settle in for the evening. Come out to meet Tina today at HRA’s Oglethorpe Street Adoption Center.

And see her on YouTube!

Pet of the Week is a weekly feature that highlights a pet available for adoption from D.C.’s Humane Rescue Alliance.

Take a look at our 2017 pets, and where they are now.

The Humane Rescue Alliance (formerly the Washington Humane Society-Washington Animal Rescue League) has protected and served the community for more than 145 years and serves more than 60,000 animals annually. The broad range of programs offered include: rescue and adoption, humane law enforcement, low-cost veterinary services, animal care and control, behavior and training, spay-neuter services, humane education, and many others.

The organization is dedicated to ensuring the safety and welfare of all animals, bringing people and animals together, and working with all communities to support these relationships.  HRA is based in Washington, DC, the only major urban area in the country that has all of its animal protection programs and services unified in one organization, making the Humane Rescue Alliance a model for the nation.
