NEW YORK (AP)— There will be no Triple Crown this year in horse racing. There won’t even be a Double Crown.
Longshot Creator nosed out Destin at the wire to win the mile and a-half Belmont Stakes. Jockey Irad Ortiz Jr. maneuvered Creator from 12th through the 13-horse field to win his first Belmont. The Steve Asmussen-trained Creator paid $34.80 for a two-dollar bet. Lani finished third.
Creator is the 10th biggest longshot to win the Belmont.
Preakness winner Exaggerator finished 11th. Kentucky Derby winner Nyquist skipped this race.
