Viewpoint: Downtown D.C. is far from dead. A native Washingtonian tells why.

Contrary to belief and despite the potential relocation of Fannie Mae, CoStar and two professional sports teams, downtown D.C. is not dead.

Downtown is the heart and soul of the business community. It enhances the business community with its social infrastructure. Yes, the shift in work culture and adoption of remote work across federal agencies and organizations has altered the level of business and social activity. But if we agree D.C. is the reason for the region, we must support its vitality for the sake of our local economy’s success.

Downtown is a concentration of fascinating, diverse and talented people who add to the overall vibrancy of the city. While the perception of high crime has dampened the appetite of some to venture downtown, I am in the office daily and never feel uneasy.
