Viewpoint: Five reasons why the Capitals, Wizards belong in D.C.

Select local business and community leaders are touting Monumental Sports & Entertainment’s December announcement as a win for the region and a testament to the kind of collaborative regionalism that is key to unlocking potential throughout all of D.C., Virginia, and Maryland. But this project, which moves economic activity from one location to another, is detrimental to the economic health of the region.

As the head of the DowntownDC Business Improvement District, I’ve heard from countless stakeholders who are concerned about what the central core of the District, the region, and our teams could lose should this plan go forward, and believe that Monumental and the region have so much to gain by staying in Downtown D.C. Here’s why:
