Reston IT integrator Intelligent Waves expects to hit a major revenue milestone this year — $100 million — and plans to increase its headcount by 50% after landing the largest government contract in its 17-year history.
Under the $99.9 million indefinite-deliver and indefinite-quantity follow-on contract with the U.S. Air Force, awarded Feb. 1, Intelligent Waves will provide continued technology support for the Air Force’s Crowd Source Flight Data Program at Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada.
It marks a big win for Tony Crescenzo, a longtime defense industry executive who took over as Intelligent Waves’ president in 2020 and was promoted to CEO last year to help steer the company through what some in government contracting call “the valley of death.” It’s a term used when a startup becomes too big to compete for contracts set aside for small businesses but don’t yet have the scale to go toe-to-toe with larger contractors.
