Meg Greenhalgh Pryde was shocked when she discovered the truth about manufacturing.
“My background is in consumer-packaged goods,” she said. “I worked for a large manufacturer that produced all kinds of different products like Tylenol and Advil or baby food. It ran the whole gamut. I was really surprised that companies would sell the exact same product in two different containers. They would sell one for a very high price point and the other one would be way more affordable.”
That insight led Pryde to found Brandefy, an app and cosmetic line. The app aggregates user-generated content and helps consumers identify lower-priced alternatives to common beauty products. The app has around 3,000 different products and has been downloaded roughly 500,000 times.
“I realized there was a way to use community and technology to help customers get the best deal,” Pryde said.
