‘Shark Tank’ alum CertifiKid of Potomac acquires New Jersey’s Hulafrog

Family-focused digital media company CertifiKid has acquired a New Jersey competitor, Hulafrog — its second acquisition in three years — to expand its reach to new markets.

Founded by married couple Jamie and Brian Ratner, Potomac-based CertifiKid functions as a deals website akin to Groupon, but specialized for family-friendly activities like Disney on Ice, or dinosaur shows like Jurassic Quest. Terms of the acquisition weren’t disclosed.

This follows CertifiKid’s 2020 acquisition of media brand Macaroni Kid, which provides parents hyperlocal e-newsletters and websites in more than 1,000 territories in the U.S and Canada, including major markets like Philadelphia, Atlanta, New York and Los Angeles. Since then, the local company has been building out its parent-focused content arm.
