D.C. attorney general sues Dan Snyder, Commanders and NFL for alleged consumer deception

D.C. Attorney General Karl Racine said Thursday he is filing a consumer protection lawsuit against the Washington Commanders, owner Dan Snyder, the NFL and Commissioner Roger Goodell, alleging they all colluded to deceive District residents about an investigation into the team’s toxic workplace culture and alleged sexual harassment of female employees in order to keep making profits. 

In the lawsuit being filed in the civil division of D.C. Superior Court, Racine alleges that when the NFL took over an investigation initiated by Snyder into the team’s workplace culture, the league and Snyder engineered a “secret agreement” that allowed the longtime team owner to make decisions about what information from the probe would be made public. The NFL has not released the investigation, saying it wanted to protect the confidentiality of witnesses. The inquiry was conducted by D.C. lawyer Beth Wilkinson.
