Ghostburger to open its first brick-and-mortar restaurant in D.C.

Destination Unknown Restaurants is getting ready to open a new and improved version of Ghostburger, the popular burger and cheesesteak pop-up it launched early in the Covid-19 pandemic from inside another of its restaurants near Mount Vernon Square.

The restaurant group shuttered Mexican restaurant Espita earlier this month to make way for the new Ghostburger, as the Washingtonian reported earlier this month, though Destination Unknown didn’t reveal at the time what would replace it. The company’s co-founders disclosed first to the Washington Business Journal what they had in mind for the space at 1250 Ninth St. NW, located across from the Walter E. Washington Convention Center.

The new Ghostburger is slated to open on Monday with established favorites including smash burgers and Philadelphia-style cheesesteaks. It will also have offerings like another Philly favorite, scrapple, along with drinks such as the “Ghost Claw,” Ghostburger’s take on hard-seltzer brand White Claw. The…
