MahoganyBooks to open National Harbor location in June

D.C. bookstore MahoganyBooks will open a second store at National Harbor on June 19.

The brand, which launched online in 2007 before expanding into its Anacostia Arts Center retail location in 2017, is owned by Derrick and Ramunda Young. MahoganyBooks focuses on the work of Black authors and has hosted author events with the late Rep. John Lewis, Walter Mosley, Chimamanda Adichie, Ta-Nehisi Coates and Misty Copeland, among others. President Barack Obama recently joined the Youngs during a virtual meeting of the store’s “MahoganyBooks and Very Smart Brothas Book Club,” where they were discussing his latest book, “A Promised Land.”

The new location, located in National Harbor’s Waterfront District, will be nearly triple the size of its Anacostia location, clocking in around 1,400 square feet.
