Dantes Partners pitching residential that evokes NYC’s Flatiron Building

A group led by D.C. developer Dantes Partners has filed plans for an affordable multifamily building in Mount Vernon Triangle that will be modeled on New York City’s Flatiron Building.

Mayor Muriel Bowser’s administrator selected Capitol Vista Community Partners (then called Voltron Community Partners) last March to redevelop the D.C.-owned parking lot at Second and H streets NW.

The site, totaling less than a quarter acre, is bounded by federal parkland, New Jersey Avenue, H Street and Second Street NW. The triangular lot shape inspired the developers to look to the Flatiron Building, according to their statement filed with the D.C. Office of Zoning.

The group, working with Grimm + Parker Architects, calls the design “a modern interpretation of the iconic building and includes horizontal lines that demarcate building floors and facades that are distinctly broken down into a top, middle, and bottom.”
