Leslie Jones took back the narrative at last night’s Emmy Awards. The Twitter Inc (ticker: TWTR) narrative, specifically.
The actress has arguably become the face of Twitter’s abuse issues, given her very public departure from the platform and eventual return. She was also later a victim of a nude photo leak.
The “Saturday Night Live” and “Ghostbusters” actress appeared onstage Sunday with officials from the accounting firm Ernst & Young — the company charged with safeguarding the Emmy voting process — and pleaded with them to guard her Twitter account from bullies and hackers.
“I really appreciate all the hard work that you do. But let’s be real: Y’all are protecting something that nobody is trying to steal. Don’t nobody want to know about boring Emmy secrets,” Jones said. “But since you’re good at keeping things safe, I’ve got a job for you: my Twitter account. Put that in the vault, please.”
And then: “Y’all over here using your skills to protect best voiceover in a French sitcom. Meanwhile, I’m butt-naked on CNN. I just wanted to feel beautiful, y’all. Can a sister feel beautiful?”
As for her tweets last night, she was ecstatic for “Saturday Night Live” and “Ghostbusters” co-star Kate McKinnon for winning her first Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series. Jones also wasn’t shy about showing off all the stars she met that night, particularly the cast of “Game of Thrones.”

Twitter may have been a source of entertainment for last night’s ceremony, though its long-term viability is up for debate. All eyes will be on its forthcoming live NFL streaming numbers, now that its inaugural debut has set a precedent, reports Recode.
TWTR‘s stock is down about 17.7 percent on the year.
